Sarah Allen is an illustrator and designer based in Victoria, Australia.
I have always loved to draw. I graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Drawing) in 1995 and took a scenic route to becoming a professional illustrator via a range of creative jobs and countries.
I worked as a web and graphic designer from 2000 to 2010. After a few months of volunteering in Cambodia, I moved to Laos in 2010 and worked in roles supporting local handicraft producers and artisans. Inspired by the lush tropical surroundings and the people I met, I began drawing again and realised what I'd been missing - drawing makes me happy! After five years in Laos, I returned home to Melbourne in 2015 working as a freelance illustrator.
I'm now living in rural Victoria, Australia with a studio in the bush. I'm lucky enough to get occasional visits from a curious wallaby and the odd echidna.
I start all projects with plenty of drawing to explore subject, form and ideas. I create my illustrations using a combination of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and hand-made collage.
Clients include Usborne Publishing, Macmillan Education, Text Publishing, Amber Lotus, VicSuper and Victoria State Government Department of Education and Training.
